Convention at the townhall Berlin, April 2008

Of 16 to 17 April 2008, the conference "Wissen Wandert - Migration und Know-how – Potenziale für Berlin " was held in Berlin's city hall. The meeting was hosted by the Berlin Chapter of the Society for International Development (SID-Berlin) and the Advisory Board for Development Cooperation of the State of Berlin in cooperation with the State Office for Development Cooperation of the Berlin Senate for Economics, Technology and Women, and the State Office for Political Education. The conference pointed out the role of knowledge and know-how in international migration plays. In addition to focusing on needs, opportunities and best practices, the benefits of know-how transfer through international migration for Berlin and the Berlin economy were shown. Berlin will always benefit from well-trained skilled workers and young creative people who want to live and work in Berlin.

Migration & Knowledge Management

The migrant knowledge about from its country of origin, can be make available to the economy or science. That makes them a part of knowledge management of the government. The challenge is to get access and use the migrants available knowledge. For example, the knowledge gained from a professional training in their country. To use this know-how, many new opportunities will be created to both countries. However, only give benefits if the knowledge of a specific immigrant was recognized accurately.
